It's not easy to top the confidence of an Astra, yet the new Vauxhall GTC adds a dash of racing spirit to one of the manufacturer's most celebrated vehicles. In addition to its track-ready looks, this three-door coupé is also a safe and practical family car, giving drivers and passengers a high level of comfort and convenience.

Performance and driving dynamics are the first priorities of this three-door coupé, but this is also combined with outstanding refinement and an array of features to keep occupants refreshed and entertained. This blend of energy and practicality is there to give you the confidence to take on every journey and new road adventure. Cruise control, air conditioning and a DAB digital radio are standard on all GTC models. A USB connection socket with iPod connectivity, meanwhile, allows you to play your favourite music at any time. A flexible steering column and height-adjustable front seats enable drivers to find the most comfortable position behind the wheel.
The engine range for the GTC includes three petrol and three diesel units – and, in recognition of the model's sportier appeal, even the least powerful engine is a 1.4-litre powertrain supplying 120PS. Modest compared to the other engines on offer, it still ensures a 0-60mph time of no more than 11 seconds – as well as combined fuel consumption of 47.9mpg and 139g/km of carbon emissions. At the other end of the spectrum is a 2.0 litre petrol unit with 280PS, which offers 0-60mph in a barnstorming 5.9 seconds. Certain other engines, such as the 1.7 litre diesel powerplant with ecoFLEX technology, return combined fuel economy of 68.9mpg combined and CO2 output of just 109g/km.The HiPerStrut system is fitted as standard at the front, with semi-independent Watt's rear suspension balancing out the rear axle for improved handling and stability. Every engine partners with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, and most versions offer a choice between the two.
